Knowing The Truth

How many of you have questioned if God exists? How many of you have questioned if the bible

was 100% accurate and true. In being transparent I have questioned it a few times in my life,

and if being honest it was during the times I wasn’t making it a priority to read it every day

and/or if I didn’t like what it said. However if we are Christians, we should understand that The

Word is a lamp to our feet, and in the dark it will light our path (Psalm 119:105). As Christians

we should know that only through the Bible we are offered a complete change of paradigm

that leads to authentic freedom. Studies show that 90% of American’s own a bible, an average

of 4 copies in fact. However 13% read it every day and 50% read it 4 times a year. If freedom

is the reality of the Bible why don’t more people read it? My point of this question is to not

make one feel guilty, but to challenge the more productive question, what obstacle in my life

is keeping me from reading the Bible? I believe the lurking reality is that some believe that

the Bible doesn’t apply to them and/or will work for them. The Bible all of a sudden becomes

irrelevant to the hectic daily schedule, or today’s modern life. There is a common belief amongst

“believers” that the Bible will work for pastors or really spiritual people but not for them. This

line of thinking exposes the lack of faith that most people have in Jesus Christ. When someone

claims to be a believer of Christ, what he or she may have is intellectual assent – agreement

with a set of Christian teachings – and as such would be an incomplete believer.

We should read and study the Bible because it is “God- breathed” (2 Timothy 3:16) meaning

God is talking to us. A lot of questions that we have, has been answered for us in scripture.

What makes the Bible so unique among so-called “holy” books is that it doesn’t merely give

moral teaching and say, “Trust me.” Rather we have the ability to check the prophecies,

historical accounts, and scientific facts that are described. Even though technology has changed,

our mankind and desires hasn’t. Therefore we see the relevance in how to apply the Bible from

a God that created mankind and the desires we have been given. As we study scriptures we

will see that whether we are talking about relationships or societal issues, Solomon was correct

when he wrote “there is nothing new under the sun” (Ecclesiastes 1:9).

As you go through this challenge I recommend trying to apply the scripture that you are reading

to an experience and/or situation that you have gone through in your life. A great technique

to remember what you’re studying is to relate what’s being studied, to an everyday lifestyle

or big event in your life. This will cause a new relationship between the events in your life and

what God had to say about them. The by product of this is God shedding truth to your current

life or circumstances and guiding you to the correct path (Psalm 119:05). As you go through

this challenge you can expect a change in your perspective as well as a transformation in your

conduct to be a better reflection of Christ. Much favor over your challenge!
